A little preparation goes a long way toward a smooth move-out and getting your full security deposit back. Here’s exactly what to do.

Your move-out checklist
Follow these steps to leave on good terms and protect your deposit.
Give proper notice
- Review your lease for the required written notice period.
- Submit your notice to vacate in writing through the portal or as your lease directs.
- Confirm your official move-out date with WAPM.
Prepare the home
- Remove all belongings and trash from the unit, storage, and outdoor areas.
- Clean thoroughly — floors, appliances, bathrooms, and kitchen.
- Patch small nail holes and address any tenant-caused damage.
- Return the unit to the condition noted on your move-in inspection (normal wear excepted).
Final steps
- Return all keys, fobs, and garage remotes as instructed.
- Provide a forwarding address so we can send your deposit disposition.
- Set utility disconnection for the day after your move-out date.
- Take dated photos of the clean, empty unit for your records.
